GRA 1171: adv1 - Advertising Design
- Study principles and psychology of advertising design, campaigns and layout in areas of print, outdoor, point-of-purchase, direct response and television. Emphasis is on original concept. Effective techniques and presentation through text, typography, illustration and photography are investigated.
- Produce accurate and representational renderings of ideas, subjects and layouts using markers, copies, scans.
- Produce logical and sequential storyboards for television commercials.
- Produce mock-ups for signage, direct response items, packaging and point-of-purchase displays.
- Use a range of pictorial, text and typographical devices and methods to organize and manipulate space to convey the appropriate message.
- Demonstrate an ability to distinguish between and appropriately choose from various advertising methods, mediums and strategies.
- Apply the design process to development of original advertising concepts and layouts.
- Create advertising campaigns around concepts in response to a design brief.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the elements and components of an advertisement.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the roles of (and within) a creative team.
- Demonstrate an understanding of creative expression and approaches.
- While ADOBE Acrobat, ADOBE Bridge, ADOBE Illustrator, ADOBE InDesign and ADOBE Photoshop software (or any other application) may be used, this is a PATHTM and STORY class focused most on D3SIGNTM.
- Experience evolves from research, ideas (the muse), implementation and persuasion of a target audience to act.
- Project: In the process of originating and executing an advertising campaign, target an audience through eight related but distinctive outdoor advertising and magazine ads.
- The sum of the whole is greater than the parts.

- 4 magazine (full page ads)
- 4 billboards (full page ads)
- Submit an 8 page PDF with billboard and magazine ad for each campaign
