GRA 2545: pub1 - Publication Design (Book, Binding)
- An advanced study of specific conceptual, aesthetic and production problems in graphic design for publication.
- Study the principles and psychology behind traditional publishing industries and more current e-publishing and "book-reader" technology.
- Emphasis is on effective techniques and presentation through the development and delivery of both versions, an electronic and a hard-bound book.
- Demonstrate the ability to solve design problems and achieve visual communications objectives.
- Accomplish graphic design solutions through the application of a project research and management model.
- Understand basic financial models within a design group and be able to develop commercial project budgets and quotations.
- Make concept sketches and drawings that reflect the project goals and communicate clearly, correctly and logically the project information.
- Be able to effectively produce mock-ups, roughs and comps with all required production specifications.
- Produce production ready digital files for all publication design solutions.
- Define the requirements of a range of print applications and identify the appropriate commercial application of each.
- While ADOBE Acrobat, ADOBE Bridge, ADOBE Illustrator, ADOBE InDesign and ADOBE Photoshop software (or any other application) may be used, this is a PATHTM and STORY class focused most on D3SIGNTM.
- Project: In the process of preparing, originating and generating a 32-page electronic book, submit the result to a self-publisher, printing at minimum, one physical, print-on-demand (POD) hard bound copy.
